Biggest Revelations from Jill Duggar's Memoir
Jill Duggar can count on her husband Derick Dillard to come to her defense.
The 19 Kids and Counting star—who has been open about her complicated family dynamic, particularly with dad Jim Bob—is sharing where she and the Duggar patriarch stand today. And as she noted, it's not just her relationship with Jim Bob that's been affected as Derick and his father-in-law's once-close bond has also fractured.
"It used to be really great," Jill explained of Jim Bob and Derick's dynamic during the Oct. 24 episode of the Vulnerable podcast. "I think Derick trusted my dad and my dad trusted him. But then, once we started having some differences and saying things that weren't—we weren't falling in line with everything—it got a little rocky there."
As the 32-year-old recalled in her memoir, Counting the Cost, a dispute over contracts signed by both Jill and Derick for the family's TLC show, 19 Kids and Counting, as well accusations of verbal abuse were among the various factors that put a strain on her relationship with her dad (who shares his 19 kids with wife Michelle Duggar).

Jill and Jim Bob's ongoing discord, in turn, led to Derick stepping in on behalf of his wife.
"Derick had to really have some hard conversations with my dad," Jill told host Christy Carlson Romano, "and more recently, to the point where he was standing up to protect me, and say, 'This is not okay, how you're treating your daughter.'"
As the reality star explained of her husband, an assistant district attorney, "I think my dad got the picture when Derick was telling him, 'If you keep contacting her directly, then I'll have to file a protective order.'"
And while their relationship with her dad remains in a thorny place amid the warning, Jill has hope for better days.

"That's kind of where their relationship is right now, but we hope for the future that things can get better," Jill—who shares kids Israel, 8, Samuel, 6 and Frederick, 14 months, with Derick—shared. "But we're not rushing things either with my family. We want to have good relationships. We want there to be better trust."
E! News has reached out to the Duggars' rep for comment and has not heard back.
Jill's recent comments comes one month after the release of her book, in which she does a deep dive into the Duggar dynamic, sharing that she and Derick met with her parents and a mediator at one point in an attempt to work through their issues. She also credits her therapist for giving her and Derick "so many tools we didn't know we needed when we needed them most."
As Jill revealed, though she doesn't solely spend time with her father currently, she does see her parents from time to time.
